Often times in marriage, we feel pulled in every direction. Our in-laws want to pull us in one direction. Then other times our own families are pulling us in the other direction. It is important to do what is right for your own family. And the extended families have to remember not to get involved in their married kids life, expect if called upon.
"Parents give their children two things: roots to grow, and wings to fly."
Once we have raised our children, it is important to then let them fly on their own wings. I really liked this. We had to read an article called Helping and Healing our Familes by Craig H. Hart, Lloyed D. Newell, Elaine Walton, and David C. Dollahite. It was talking about the importance of keeping a good relationship with your in-laws, the ones you marry and the ones your kids marry. This is a good reminder.
Another thing that we read this week was "Till Death Do Us Part" Chapter 2 by Bernard Poduska. In this article he said that we shouldn't be celebrating our anniversaries, but a "remarriage." We are different people from the two the got married originally. We have changed and accomplished different things each year. Another quote from this article that I liked is, "You can never get enough of what you don't need, because what you don't need can never satisfy you." Money isn't everything. We just watched a movie called The Ultimate Life. This man's whole purpose was to become a billionaire. He had let this one goal rule his life. He ruined his kids, because he was always just handing over money, never making them work for it. And by the time he did become a billionaire, the only one to celebrate was himself because he had pushed everyone else out.
I was able to talk to my husband about the relationships that we have with each sides of our family.
