Writing a Good Persuasive Speech

Persuasive speeches are harder to write because you really have to appeal to your audience.  You have to make them see the need and then create in them a desire to go out and fix it.  We learned about Monroe's Motivated Sequence.  This includes:
1.  Attention-have a topic that really draws your audience in from the beginning.
2.  Need-Show the need to your audience.  This is where you build the case and show the needs.
3.  Satisfaction-This is where you provide solutions.  You show all the ways that this can be solved.
4.  Visualization-Hopefully you audience captures the vision and is willing to embrace your idea.
5.  Action-This is where you give your audience something simple enough that they can take action.  I thought these were great ideas and can hopefully help me in writing my persuasive essay here in the next few weeks. 

We also talked about Logos, Pathos and Ethos.  These are all important concepts for a persuasive essay.  Logos is the logical part of the speech.  This is where you show the evidence, the statistics, etc. Pathos is also known as pathetic.  This one appeals to the emotions of the audience.  And finally we have Ethos which is ethical.  You are using others words which adds credibility.  Your audience may not believe you but they may believe someone who in an expert in that field. 

All of these are important features in writing a persuasive speech.  Persuasive speeches should be written out and practiced that way because you have power in certain words.  If those words are forgotten or changed than you persuasiveness is also gone.

I think many times we are easily persuaded by media in how we do our spending.  Often times the word "Sale" makes it sound like a good deal.  Or often times we'll see "2 in stock." This creates an urgency in us that we better hurry before they are sold out.  We don't need to let the world dictate what is necessary spending.  We just had a regional conference this weekend and they reminded us that we need to live a simple life.  We can  live without all the extra things the world is telling us what we need.  We need to save our money instead of wasting in on more "things."
