The current trends of today will affect generations to come

Today our families are faced with lots of varying views of what a family really is.  The world is saying it is ok to have same-sex relationships, to be single, to delay marriage, that children aren't important, to increase your education or to be career focused.  All of these views are telling our children and youth not to get married and to raise a family.  It is so important for our children to know and be very familiar with the principles outlined in The Family: A Proclamation to the World.  In fact I want my children to memorize it, so that there is no confusion about their roles as men and women, and so that they will know that this is how a family needs to be.  Heavenly Father's view on family never changes, it is the world's that does.  It is interesting to me to see how marriage has changed even from my grandparents era.  My grandpa is one of 13 children.  His mother's goal was to raise a righteous family.  Now families are having few children, mothers are in the work force and other types relationships are forming.  It is also interesting to know how the woman's movement several decades ago has even changed our views on family.  Now we have a big same-sex movement.  This will change things as we know them.  In some places they are teaching this in schools that a marriage is between any two adult people.  In these schools there are not giving parents notice of this being taught and do not offer an opt out either.  This is scary that the schools think that they have more power than the child's own parent, to teach them these kind of things.  We have to make our voice heard.  We have to express our views in our children's schools and in our community.  We need to protect our children as much as we can from the world's views of family.

Just this week I was called upon to attend a play at the local high school as a chaperone for the middle school.  We watched Anything Goes.  The costumes were very cute, and the kids did a great job.  However there was cussing throughout the show, and many sexual innuendos including a scene where a girl was trying to seduce a boy on the cruise ship.  This was awful for many reasons.  We had very young, vulnerable teens watching this show.  While most understood, there was embarrassed giggles and blushing during these scenes.  Also there was many cast members that I recognized from our stake.  I was surprised that none of them had mad a stir about these offending words and scenes.  When we got back to the office, the office staff was waiting for raving reviews, and were shocked to hear that all of us thought it was very inappropriate.  Here we had middle school and high school kids exposed to worldly views.  After coming home from this production, I was able to tell my sister about it, who had been watching my kids.  We had a detailed conversation of how important it is to keep ourselves clean and pure.  We talked about how the worldly views just kind of creep in.
